Hi there, I'm Michael!
Hello! My name is Michael White, I am a licensed clinical social worker based out of California. The core of therapy to me is the forming of a meaningful bond between therapist and client that fosters trust, openness, and comfortability. I have extensive experience in assisting people with grief and loss, past and current trauma, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, and emotion regulation.
My approach
My focal theoretical frameworks are DBT, Mindfulness, and CBT. I believe in meeting people where they are and having therapy be a collaborative process. Interpersonal connection between client and therapist is key to me, and I do my best to foster a therapeutic relationship in which people feel heard, respected, and empowered.
My focus
I worked for many years with individuals coping with community violence, sexual exploitation, familial and romantic abuse, grief, major life transitions, and emotional dysregulation. I have a high level of experience treating depression, anxiety, panic, PTSD, OCD, substance dependency, adjustment disorders, and sleep disturbances.
My communication style
I strive to set a tone of collaboration, comfort, and mutual respect during therapy. Creating a sense of serenity, acceptance, and thoughtfulness is important to me, as I feel it builds an environment that fosters insight and healing.
My journey to therapy
I am legally blind without my contacts and needed a lot of support growing up to get to where I am today. I therefore learned the value of such support from a young age, and how privileged I was to have been able to receive it. Because of this, I knew while still in high school that I wanted to support others the way I had been supported. Everyone’s life will carry challenges, some more so than others, and I feel that everyone should be able to get help in navigating such challenges.
