Getting to know Michal Tirado

I have experience working with individuals with anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, borderline personality disorder, substance use disorder, as well as those diagnosed with both mental health and substance use issues. I have also worked with the forensic population, including those who are incarcerated or on parole. I hold a Master's degree in Forensic Mental Health Counseling from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a Bachelor's degree from the University at Albany. As a mother of a neurodivergent child on the autism spectrum, I offer empathy and a safe space for all parents to feel supported. Additionally, as a member of the neurodivergent and kink communities and an LGBTQ+ community ally, I provide empathy, insight, and support to members of these communities.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I was inspired to become a therapist because I have always had a unique ability to connect and empathize with others, as well as an intrinsic passion for helping others.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I provide a judgment-free, safe space, where my clients can feel comfortable to be their true selves and to talk with me about anything. I tailor my therapeutic approach to the individual, as I believe that each person is unique. I utilize a person-centered, trauma-informed, approach to help individuals lead the life they want to live.
