Welcome! My name is Paula Southwell. I have been a licensed clinical social worker in practice for 24 years. After a brief and wonderful absence, helping raise my 4 grandchildren, I am returning to my chosen profession.
I am also an assistant professor of sociology and social work at the State University of New York at Orange. I hold 2 master’s degrees, one in sociology and one in social work.
Central to my therapeutic approach is cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, empathic therapy, insight meditation, the art of mindfulness, client centered, and I am a Reiki practitioner.
I specialize in a diverse range of mental health concerns. Focusing on helping clients navigate and overcome challenges related to depression, anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, grief and loss, domestic violence issues, suicidal ideation and other acute problems, as well as anger and stress management.
My therapeutic philosophy is to practice with unconditional positive regard for others well-being and personal growth.
