Hi there, I'm Sarah!
My name is Sarah Lauterbach, I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and I love working with anxiety, life transitions, and pregnancy/postpartum folks from attachment theory-based, family systems, and psychodynamic approaches.
My approach
Therapy with me is like having a casual conversation where I may interject at times to point out patterns, and themes, focus on emotion, or explore your family. I use attachment theory to help people experience a safe base, psychodynamic to explore their childhoods, and family systems to identify patterns of behavior and modeling passed down from generation to generation.
My focus
My clients come to me with symptoms of anxiety (feeling worried a lot of the time, focusing on worst-case scenarios, and feeling fear which may result in avoidance and panic attacks). Some of my clients are pregnant or have just had a baby and feel overwhelmed with the life transition. They may feel like they have lost themselves.
My communication style
I am warm, humorous, and direct in my communication. I may make references from the 90s that I have to explain to my younger clients. My clients have said they appreciate my active participation and that I don't judge them.
My journey to mental healthcare
I have been a good listener since childhood and found myself attracted to the career after a volunteer experience in my twenties. I am fascinated by humans and a knowledge seeker. I believe our one job on this Earth is to learn about ourselves and others and to hone our connection with others.
My goals for you
My clients come up with their own goals for treatment and I am a guide to help them achieve those goals. I periodically check in with clients about their treatment goals to make sure we are on track.
My first session with you
I may ask a lot of questions in the first session to get a sense of who you are and how I may be able to help you. I want to know your hopes and dreams and not just your problems.
