Hi there, I'm Nathen! Hello, my name is Nathen Brown. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a Master's in Social Work from California State University San Marcos. I have over 20 years of experience working with high-risk youth populations and adults with dual diagnosis. My approach My primary therapeutic goal is to provide a safe, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, understood, and valued. My approach focuses on assessing each client from a trauma-informed lens while identifying interpersonal needs through a bio-psychosocial perspective. Treatment modalities I use include cognitive behavioral therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, solution-focused therapy, and crisis management techniques. My focus In my 20 years of counseling experience, I have worked with clients in adult mental health institutions, outpatient clinics, foster youth in residential treatment, and incarcerated juveniles. I treat clients with dual diagnosis and Axis-I diagnoses (including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and borderline personality disorder). I also address general anxiety, depression, and trauma-related interpersonal problems. My communication style One of my biggest strengths as a therapist is my calming demeanor, monotone voice, and nonjudgmental approach. Clients can expect constant validation in an environment that fosters vulnerability. My journey to mental healthcare My journey began in Colorado, working at a juvenile detention facility. I discovered a talent for connecting with youths in the juvenile justice system who experienced abuse, abandonment, and childhood traumas. My passion for social work is rooted in giving back to vulnerable and underserved populations who have not been afforded the same opportunities in society.
