“Stephanie is a beautiful soul that genuinely cares about you not only as her patient, but as a human. She really took in what I said and helped me recognize patterns I didn't see before. Because she does somatic therapy, she helped me become more attuned to my bodily sensations and while working with her, my nervous system was the best it'd ever been. I have a history with anxiety, and it has gotten a lot better. I feel blessed to have worked with her.”

“I'm extremely grateful to be able to explore so many different parts of my inner world in my sessions with Stephanie. The approach we took in our sessions has been challenging but rewarding. I think this was only possible because they opened up a space that allowed me to go at my own pace, with the willingness to create a space for me to be seen. If you're looking for someone who values and cares. I'd recommend Ste phanie.”

Getting to know Stephanie Alirkan

Please note that I am an out-of-network provider with all insurances. I can provide you with a superbill to help you obtain reimbursement from your insurance company and am happy to walk you through the reimbursement process so that our sessions are covered by your insurance. I'm passionate about helping clients work through trauma and stressful life events, and exploring stuckness in relational patterns. I've always loved learning about people, how our survival mechanisms evolved, how culture impacts society, and vice versa. Last but not least, I'm most enamored by our depth of feelings, and our profound capacity for beauty, connection, and love. I hold a Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling from Long Island University, which has deeply informed my approach to therapy. The North Star of my work is the belief that in order to heal tension, stress, painful sensations and feelings, we first need to feel resourced and soothed in our nervous system. We're familiar with the idea that trauma has lasting impacts on depression, our nervous systems, and anxiety regulation, but growing in my understanding of the physical impacts has been incredible for shaping my view of how to heal in a way that feels as if a heaviness has lifted, like a long sigh of relief a true sensation of okay-ness. I see therapy as needing to incorporate the natural process of the mind, body, and senses to truly move us forward in a meaningful, lasting way. It's one thing to understand on a surface level, but reaching deeper, underlying parts of us is where real transformation can be felt.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I often work with open-minded, curious seekers who aim to explore how to become more embodied, self-aware, and committed to their own well-being and healing, so they might feel more comfortable in their skins. The work I love to offer intends to sharpen your inner clarity, so that you may answer questions for yourself that might have once appeared unanswerable on your own. I’m passionate about working with trauma, relationship, and multicultural issues, and supporting clients in boundaries, increasing their self-esteem, and finding a strong sense of resourcing within themselves.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I practice a style of therapy that places front-and-center the natural processes of the body, breath, and senses to hold us in our healing, to ensure a deeper, lasting impact on nervous systems regulation. As a trained meditative breathwork and yoga teacher, I draw from an integrative, holistic view of therapy that holds the mind-body connection at its core. I prioritize relational attunement to create a gentle, warm and sanctuary-type of relationship that makes way for true collaboration. Together, we will process unpleasant feelings and belief systems to be better equipped to open up to new possibilities.

I spent years struggling to find a therapist who was the "right fit," and had kind of given up on the idea of it working for me. I reached out to Stephanie on a whim - and I'm eternally grateful I did. The progress we have made over our 3 years of working together has transformed my life in numerous ways. I am particularly appreciative of how she helps me unapologetically show up as my authentic self, and gently holds me accountable to love and protect this self. Even though we discuss very heavy and trauma-related feelings, I still am able to find lightness -and laughter - during our sessions. I would highly recommend her to anyone seeking a caring, kind, honest, and highly skilled practitioner.
Stephanie brings warmth, wisdom, and a grounded presence to her work. She has a gift for helping people feel seen and supported, while also gently challenging them to grow. Her approach is both compassionate and empowering, and it’s clear she’s deeply committed to her clients' well-being.
Stephanie is very kind and thoughtful in her approach to therapy. She is genuinely empathetic and gently guides sessions with thoughtful questions. She also contributes to the dialogue in a way that is considerate, inviting, and often illuminating. She has helped me to find a new level of self awareness, as well as tools to better support myself in daily life.
My session with Stephanie went really well. She was extremely attentive and kind - I can't wait for my next session. Would highly recommend her!
I had the pleasure of working with Stephanie and I can't express how grateful I am for the exceptional care they provided. She is a true expert in their field, and their dedication to helping patients achieve their goals is inspiring. Under her guidance, I experienced remarkable progress in my recovery. I highly recommend Stephanie Alirkan to anyone seeking top-notch therapeutic presence!
Stephanie has the capacity to build trust between us right away. She applies right portion of patient and rhythm on my treatment. I am lucky having her as my therapist.
Stephanie is a wonderful therapist at Downtown Somatic Therapy who has helped me with anxiety and depression. She knows many therapies and techniques, such as breathwork, which she uses and teaches to patients. Not only will Stephanie help you, but she will also give you the tools to help yourself!
Where do I even begin? Stephanie, has been an absolute beacon of hope and support on my journey to healing and self-love. I can't emphasize enough how instrumental she has been in helping me navigate through the darkest moments of my life, and her compassionate guidance has brought me closer to what feels like life again. From the very first session, Stephanie exuded a genuine warmth and understanding that immediately put me at ease. Her ability to create a safe and non-judgmental space allowed me to open up in ways I never thought possible. It's truly remarkable how she has this uncanny knack for intuitively understanding what I needed to discuss, even when I struggled to articulate my emotions. She understands well what needs to be said and what doesn't. While I may not be fully there yet, I am on a path of transformation, and I owe so much of that progress to Stephanie. She has given me the strength I never had and encouraged me to confront my fears with courage and resilience.
