Dr. Suzanne Gutiérrez Teissonniere is a board certified Diplomat of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR), a Board Certified Sports Medicine Doctor and a Fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AAPMR). She is also trained in interventional spine procedures and electrodiagnostic testing. Her emphasis is a non-surgical approach to the management of musculoskeletal injuries, including those to the spine.
Dr. Gutiérrez received her degree in Biopsychology & Biomedical Engineering from Tufts University in Medford, MA. She then received her medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) School of Medicine. Dr. Gutiérrez completed an Internal Medicine Internship at the Puerto Rico Medical Center (UPR) and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency at New York University, Rusk Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine, where she also served as Chief Resident.

Very thorough and sensible in her approach, made many helpful recommendations and steered me to a great PT when she didn't see enough progress from the first one. Took the time to explain everything. Only complaint was the wait time, at 1pm or 5pm I always waited at least 30 min, one time almost an hour. I would guess early appointments are less waiting.

The dr had an emergency, and so was delayed. However, they didn't just let you show up and wait. Unlike other doctors' offices, they called to inform, and to push the appointment forward a bit. This was great, as it showed they considered your time as valuable. The doctor was very thorough in her examination, didn't treat you as just work, but a real person who is seeking her help, and was very professional. She is a great example of how doctors should treat clients. Very pleasant doctors visit.

I was seen nearly half an hour late, which was frustrating. But once I saw Dr Gutierrez the visit was fairly quick. I was surprised that she didn't ask me many questions about my running history and my mileage and workouts - given I was coming in for a foot injury. But she seemed to do a thorough exam and was actually "just checking" my other foot because I had had some pain but thought it was "normal bunion pain." Turns out it may be more serious. So she was thorough and prescribed an MRI. I will see her again for a follow up next week and go from there. The next appointment will give me a better big picture opinion of her.

Dr. Gutierrez was absolutely excellent. She stayed late in the office to see me as I was running late from work (which was HUGELY appreciated), took a good amount of time with me to run through various tests, and, as I was due to travel within days of the appointment and was in pain, had her office schedule me for follow-up diagnostics the next day (again hugely appreciated). In short, Dr. Gutierrez was super professional, thorough and helpful; she was also very flexible in terms of providing all options for treatment and follow-up once the cause of the pain was identified by the diagnostics, while letting me determine my own course of action.

She was really great - very knowledgable. I had to wait about 20 minutes after the appointment to be seen, but the evaluation was quick and to thorough, so I still got out earlier than expected. Great office and admin support in Union Square location. Good bedside manner, but very serious demeanor overall. I liked that her approach is to start with minimally invasive options.

Dr. Guiterrez is knowledgable, available, approachable, and thorough. She takes time during her exams to make sure everything is covered. I felt comfortable sharing issues with her that I didn't share with other doctors. She ordered all necessary tests to make sure I was OK before I started physical therapy to eliminate the risk of further injury. I went through a very scary time with relation to my health and she was a trusted source of information and advocacy. I'm very happy I found her.

Dr Gutierrez is one of the best doctors I have seen for my back and I have had back problems for over 15 years. She listens, gets to the point in terms of diagnosis and treatment, and strongly advocated for me as a patient. I think this is the first time I saw someone for my back and did not feel stressed, and I have seen several physiatrists in the past. She has a strong referral network and remains in close contact when referrals are necessary. She is available for questions as well as her assistant Lia.
