More about Dr. Tyler Wooten, MD
Dr. Tyler A. Wooten is a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist who is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and is a practicing psychiatrist and psychotherapist. He began therapeutic patient care with children and adolescents at the age of 25 when he was employed at a private psychiatric hospital; it was then that he decided to make a study of the human condition his life’s work. He entered medical school in 1995 with the sole intention of becoming a pediatric psychiatrist.
After finishing his adult psychiatry residency and pediatric fellowship, Dr. Wooten was asked to join the faculty at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He was voted top resident in Emergency Psychiatry by the faculty of UT Southwestern, excelling in crisis intervention and stabilization, and became the first Director of Emergency Room Psychiatry at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas as well as serving as a medical director of the inpatient psychiatric unit for six years. There, he helped to develop The Center for Pediatric Eating Disorders. He also served as the supervising and treating physician at The Renfrew Center Dallas.
Today, Dr. Wooten is the psychiatrist and founding partner of Uptown Analytic Practices. He changed his focus in 2010 from hospital based work to private practice, to allow him to see adult as well as a pediatric population. He practices simultaneously as a psychiatrist and psychotherapist, with a background in Jungian and Buddhist theory. Because he approaches mental illness from a psychological as well as a medical perspective, he spends more time with his patients and engages them in a deeper and more meaningful conversation. He prescribes medications only when needed, and does so thoughtfully and sparingly.
