I am a Hawai'i-licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and have been practicing in Hawai'i for the past 35 years. I am dedicated to the health and well-being of our communities and have provided therapeutic services to a wide array of people here on our beautiful islands. My love and respect for the people of these islands continue to grow and expand, and I am grateful for the opportunities to serve and support so many diverse communities of people.
My approach
I am client-centered in my approach to therapeutic work and value the insights and contributions of my clients in their journey of self-discovery and healing. I am Jungian trained and utilize various therapeutic approaches, including art therapy, narrative, and talk story, play therapy, and when appropriate, cognitive behavioral instruction. I have worked for most of my career with children, adolescents, and young adults. In recent years I have welcomed adults of all ages into my practice.
My focus
I have vast experience with children, adolescents, and young adults. Over the 35 years of practicing in Hawai'i, I have provided therapeutic support to a wide array of children, adolescents their families, and young adults, of every background and ethnicity. I have experience in treating depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, family displacement issues, school behavioral challenges, divorce, bereavement, trauma, and childhood sexual abuse.
My communication style
My initial focus in therapy has always been to actively build a level of trust through consistent eye contact, active listening, unconditional positive regard, and warm acceptance to help increase my client's ability to identify and express feelings. I meet each client exactly where they are, and begin the work guided by the wisdom of the client coupled with my perceptions and insights. Through years of experience, I believe all of my clients feel a sense of safety, trust, respect, and confidence.
