What is a Sleep Medicine Specialist?
Sleep medicine specialists treat tiredness, fatigue, and sleep deprivation disorders, often by examining symptoms and observing abnormalities of the patient while sleeping. Patients may see sleep specialists if they are experiencing restless legs, nightmares, insomnia, or excessive fatigue. Sleep deprivation often has an underlying cause, such as sleep apnea, narcolepsy, circadian rhythm disturbances, or psychological disturbances. After diagnosis, treatment may include cognitive behavioral therapy, medication, bright light therapy, and oral appliances.
