No dentist has ever taken the time to explain things to me as well as Dr. Metzdorf. He gave suggestions I had not thought of for improving my routines and did not admonish me for my dental habits. There was no rush and both he and his assistants met me with a handshake. The office is very well-laid out and there is a lot of beauty in all the details. He has a droll sense of humor and is very relaxed and capable. A dental assistant told me that he is a DIY person who fixes things himself. Bonus: Besides talking teeth, you may get to hear about sailing, home renovations, bass guitars, etc. CHOOSE THIS DENTIST!!

Dr. Metzdorf Jr. (or "Dr. Dave" as he is affectionately known to his patients) was born and raised in the Washington, DC area. He attended the University of Maryland's dental school and received his DDS in 1999.
In his spare time, Dr. Metzdorf, Jr. enjoys cycling, sailing, repairing cars, and spending time with his wife. He also likes relaxing with his pets.
Dave is known for his warm manner and gentle humor. He loves getting to know his patients over the many years that he sees them. He treats patients as if they were part of his own family.

Dr. Metzdorf was easily the best doctor that I have ever had, including PCPs, physical therapists, etc. He is incredibly gentle, exceptionally informative, and always honest in a kind way (I definitely do need to floss more :-/).

Dr. Metzdorf is one of the best Dentists in the area. I initially had taken my daughter for an emergency dental work, while our family dentist was on vacation, and I was so impressed with his service that I have switched my entire family dental care to his office. His office staff are very friendly and there is very little wait time. He is very knowledgeable and has a great sense of humor.

Fantastic experience! Dr. Metzdorf immediately built great rapport with me, was thorough in explaining his findings and recommendations, and showed a great sense of humor while being entirely professional. No two-minute exam with everything else left to a hygienist--he did all the cleaning work and x-rays as well. Best and most complete dental exam I've had in 30+ years.

Dr. Metzdorf is the best dentist I've ever seen. He's warm with a fantastic manner about him. He doesn't make me feel guilty for not seeing the dentist as often as I should. He immediately recognized that I chew things as a nervous habit. He gently explained what that does to my teeth and the long term effects. Then he backed that up by showing the evidence on the X-Ray.
I've never had a better experience at the dentist. And they have TV's in the ceiling to keep you distracted while you are laying back!

I recently attained medical insurance through my new employer, but prior to that I had been un-insured for 5 years. I have NEVER been a fan of going to the dentist, but I knew that I needed to make a trip now - especially because it's been so long. I walked in a little nervous, knowing that I had five years worth of missed cleanings weighing me down.
There was literally no wait time at all, so I was seen immediately. Dr. Metzdorf IMMEDIATELY put me at ease and started joking around with me like I had known him for a lot longer than 2 minutes, and on top of that - he was very gentle, which is pretty rare in this field. A lot of dentists just go digging around in your mouth, not caring much whether they are causing you pain or making you uncomfortable. But that was never the case here!
Oh - and he also took the cleaning tool out of my mouth if he asked me a question, which I much appreciated. A part of me suspects that it's some kind of sick joke in this field to ask a question when they have their fingers in the patients mouth, and then silently chuckle to themselves as said patient struggles to give a coherent answer. Dr. Metzdorf doesn't play this game - points for you, good sir!
Bottom line - love this place. As long as I live in NoVa, I won't be going anywhere else!
