He attended the University at Buffalo, SUNY, where he was an University Honors Scholar and received a Bachelor's Degree in Biology. He earned Phi Beta Kappa honors and graduated Summa Cum Laude with Honors in Biology of Highest Distinction in 1996. He went on to medical school at NYU School of Medicine and graduated in 2000. He remained at NYU and completed his internal medicine training at Bellevue Hospital and NYU Medical Center. He did his Gastroenterology training at Montefiore / Albert Einstein Medical Center in the Bronx and also completed a fellowship in Hepatology and Liver Diseases and Transplantation at Columbia University Medical Center in 2004.
