Dr. Alfred J. Nadel joined Retina Associates of New York in 2003, to which he brought forty years of Clinical Vitreo-Retinal practice.
A graduate of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, Dr. Nadel did his internship at Letterman General Hospital in San Francisco; his residency at Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago; and a Fellowship in Retinal Diseases & Surgery at New York Hospital of Cornell University Medical School.
He is an Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at New York University and is currently an Attending Surgeon at Lenox Hill Hospital, where he was the director of the Retinal Service. He has received awards as “Teacher of the Year” and trained many medical students who eventually became Retinal Specialists now in practice throughout the country.
Dr. Nadel is a member of the American Board of Ophthalmology, American Society of Retina Specialists, the British-American Retina Group, the Societe Francaise D’Ophthalmologie, the New York Society of Clinical Ophthalmology, the Committee on Continuing Medical Education and the New York County Medical Society. He has written many articles published in ophthalmic journals as well as several chapters in ophthalmic textbooks. He has also presented papers at the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the “Societe d’Ophtalmologie Francaise”. As one of the early participants in the prestigious “ORBIS” program, he undertook medical missions in Costa Rica and China, for which he received acclaim from the Lions Club of Costa Rica and “ORBIS”. He has also been involved in training missions in Poland and India.

Dr. Nadel gave me a thorough eye exam. He spent alot of time making sure the glasses I had on were the correct prescription . But when I asked for a written prescription was told they do not write Rxs for glasses. I have never had a ophthalmologist refuse to give me a Rx for glasses. Wish I would have known this before I was examined.

Filled everything out online and waited about 10 minutes or less before I was seen. Dr. Nadel was very professional, easy going, and inviting. I hadn't been to an eye doctor or had an exam in years, so I was asking him questions and bringing up concerns. He was very thorough and polite and took his time. I didn't feel rushed or afraid to bring up things that concerned me. He has an old school flair, but is a seasoned and brilliant doctor who is up to date. I would highly recommend him.

Dr. Nadel was very kind and clear in his communication. He took the time to explain my situation and put my mind at ease. I would definitely come to see him again.
The staff at the front desk were a bit strange though and the doctor himself came out to see what the hold up was. I was the only person in the waiting room and they hadn't told the doctor I was ready! So I ended up waiting 40 minutes to be seen. Additionally they had me refill out all the forms even though they had the forms that were sent in by Zocdoc. Very strange.
Otherwise it was a very good visit.

Waited over an hour to be seen by this doctor. When I asked the front-desk person about the waiting time she said that people spend between 2 to 3 hours there. Doctor did not introduce himself, did not resolve my problem and was interrupted twice in the five minutes that he spend with me. Waist of time and money. I wanted to ask my money back.

Start was quite disappointing because the receptionist forced me to fill in all forms one more time saying that she has no Internet in the lobby - thus she had not received forms filled with zocdoc.
