What should a new client know about working with you?

I have been in the mental health field for over twenty years and am the founder of Middle Way Healing. My therapy approach is based in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and incorporates a blend of mindfulness, practical skills, and cognitive restructuring. I am also registered Kundalini yoga teacher and offers yoga-informed somatic therapy which can include work with the breath, body awareness, and some movement. For couples work, I employ Gottman Method Couples Therapy, which encourages couples to build from existing relationship strengths and learn practical communication tools to successfully process disputes and unresolved issues. This highly effective therapy technique can help couples move towards closeness and fulfillment. I also employ therapy practices which bring forth a deeper connection to intuition and the wisdom of the body such as Focusing, Emotional Freedom Technique, and Mindfulness Meditation. Additionally, I offer treatment through EMDR for those seeking relief from past unresolved trauma.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

At Middle Way Healing we believe that the mind and body are interconnected. The body holds important clues about our inner experience and plays a significant role in the healing process. It is possible to reduce stress and suffering by paying attention to these inner clues in a non-judgmental way. Attention without judgement is not an easy task, but it is a key component to emotional wellbeing. Our therapists blend cognitive and psychodynamic therapy with mindfulness and Buddhist psychology to help clients become more aware of their thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations. Along with traditional talk therapy techniques, our therapists use a variety of techniques including meditation, breath work, and body-based exercises to help our clients develop a greater sense of self-awareness, self-compassion and resilience. Therapy sessions are 45-55 minutes long and are typically weekly. The regularity of therapy sessions is important for developing a familiar and trusting treatment relationship. Weekly sessions also allow for consistent practice of the skills you will be learning. As clients meet their treatment goals, we sometimes decide together to taper visits before “graduation” from treatment.
