I have seen Dr Smith several times over the past years and he always seems to find what needs to be treated. He gets right to the issue. He found a problem on my foot that I didn't realize I had and treated me for it during the visit. I feel I am in good hands !

Let's start with me running about 10-15 mins late, then the building has Covid Screening- temp taking, questions, given a mask, even though wearing one & told to wear the one they gave us. This is Mount Sinai at Union Sq, East, be prepared, as I didn't think about this, but of course it's taking place everywhere.
This is a new doc for me. It took a long time to get registered b/c there were a couple of people registering before me, and only one person at the reception desk. And, one person didn't understand well, so it too sooo long, but the woman helping him register was a very kind and patient person.
I do not know if this waiting is normal or just because it was a Monday. Now that I met the Dr., though, I'd wait again. I think the Dr is terrific. Immediately diagnosed the problem, explained how and why it's there, what to do, and how to prevent it from being chronic. Thorough, and I didn't feel I was given the bum's rush, either. He was clearly busy, and fully booked, but once in the room, there was no sense of being rushed and he answered all questions and concerns. I was happy to meet him. I'll see him again if needed.

Dr. Smith is an outstanding and experienced dermatologist in whom I have complete confidence. His assistant - whose name I sadly didn't get - was also terrific. I thought the precautions taken throughout the facility were very carefully thought out, and I had no concern about Covid while there.

I came in with 3 issues, he looked at me quickly, wrote me a prescription for a steroid cream and that was it. No follow up appt. needed. Nothing. I told him I thought I was having an allergic reaction to something and he said everyone's allergic to something. What?!
I still have the 3 issues I walked in with. I did not feel taken care of or listened to at all.

He’s a very genial, down to earth doctor with a sense of humor and calming demeanor. He doesn’t try to pressure you into any procedures at all which I have found too often with previous dermatologists.

BE WARNED! In addition to the bill for my visit with Dr. Smith (mostly covered by my insurance), I received an outrageous separate bill from Mt. Sinai for "Hospital Facility Fees" for more than the visit itself! I have seen several doctors in this Union Square location and never before received such a charge. When I called to inquire, they said this varies from dr. to dr. and there is nothing to be done. The amount was not disclosed in advance. This was a preventative annual screening, no procedure or special equipment needed which makes this high facility fee even more puzzling. Steer clear!

I have no serious nor ongoing dermatological problems -- only the occasional issue with a mole or rash. Dr. Barry Smith has unfailingly resolved whatever issue I had, quickly and professionally and painlessly. His staff is warm and pleasant, and he also has a sense of humor, which I much appreciate. Wait time is minimal. I highly recommend him.
