The Dr. was personable, competent and appeared knowledgeable. The office staff? Not so much..Iike other reviews have said- the staff is unfriendly and unprofessional. They lack the ability to handle minor situations or interact in a cordial way with patients.

I have been seeing Dr. Mandel for a few years and I would highly recommend him. He is very warm and explains everything to you. He is proactive but cautious and I’m very happy to be a patient of the office. He is also conveniently in an office in Manhattan and on Long Island.

I was impressed with the operations of this office. There were several people in the waiting room when I arrived, but I was seen after 15 minutes. A nurse came to take down my details, and then the doctor came. Heprobably only spent 5 minutes with me, but in that time he managed to take a look at my skin, make a diagnosis, explain it to me, tell me how to take care of it and make small talk! He was in and out of there in 5 minutes, but everything was covered. Very efficient!

Dr. Mandel makes your feel comfortable right away. He treated my issue right away and then proceeded to ask if I had any other concerns and addressed them all as well. I've put off going to the dermatologist for annual mole/spotchecks for 5 years after a bad experience. I'm very happy to have found Dr. Mandel and will be returning annually.

Im still trying to understand why Dr. Mandels ratings are so high. In my experience within his practice, that nurses are very pushy and particularly on the day I came to the office it was not so busy therefore, I didntunderstand why there was an "in and out" approach with me. After I waited in the diagnoses room to see the doctor, he asked me 2 questions about my skin without actually taking a look to feel and see the skin. His examination took shorter than I waited to see him and with the questions that I asked including if he could prescribe me medicines that would be covered by my insurance because I am a student, he affirmed me he would give me some products that would work great particularly two that I would have to pick up from the pharmacy. Once our 5 min consultation was finished, I was taken by the nurse to make a new appointment and submit my copay but I was taken a back when my bill was more than I could have afford...I then realized that I was only prescribed two products from the pharmacy and the rest were from the Doctors personal line that were too much for me to purchase at once so, i did what i could and left a bit of a balance (to which later I came back to complete the balance gradually). At the moment, I didn't mind because I was in desperation for my skin...about a month after I used the products there was no improvements at all actually, my skin begin becoming a lot more oilier, and around my mouth peeling, and with red irritated undertones.. I called them and told them the situation and the need to talk to the doctor...the nurse rudely explained that he was not available but her advice was to come in and purchase another set of products to see how that worked, i said no way. Researching on my own its a bit phony that doctors after being told the needs of the patient by the patient to push their personal products onto the patient. I ended up having to go to another dermatologist, who ended up actually per scribing me something that worked and I could use my insurance. Now Dr. Mandel office is chasing me down for a tiny balance I have left on my bill even though, I had offered to send the still filled bottles of the medicine he gave me.

The whole staff, including Dr. Mandel, was great. Clean, efficient, quick, kind. I was in and out in under 30 minutes and that includes cutting off/out some abnormal something or other. The only potential thing I was thinking about is howfast he scanned my skin for bad signs; he checked everything twice, but it still felt like he went fast. Hard to know, since this was my first skin exam and he's a long-time pro. But I'll return next year.

Doctor was extremely patient and knowledgement taking time to explain things to me. The only thing was the front staff was a bit rude and took awhile to verify my information. The checkout process was extremely quick. The doctor compounds hisown medicine and sells it at the office at a reasonable price. The medicine works well on my skin and keeps a good balance.
