More about Dr. Benjamin C. Tam, MD
Benjamin C. Tam, MD was born in Newark and grew up in Edison, New Jersey.
He attended Johns Hopkins University and graduated in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering with general honors. He received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine in 1992. He completed a General Surgery internship and his Orthopaedic Surgery residency at UCLA Medical Center before joining Pacific Orthopaedic Associates in 1997.
Because of his keen interest in all aspects of orthopaedics, Dr. Tam initially chose to practice general orthopaedics. His perspective was that a general orthopaedic practice would allow him to serve the widest range of patients possible while simultaneously fulfilling his desire to be a “complete” orthopaedic surgeon. In recent years, he has developed a subspecialty interest in shoulder surgery, which has been ignited in large part by the many recent advances in arthroscopic shoulder techniques and shoulder reconstruction.
Dr. Tam specializes in arthroscopic and reconstructive shoulder surgery including rotator cuff repair and reverse shoulder replacement, knee arthroscopy, hip and knee replacement, and orthopaedic trauma. He is trained in Conformis custom knee replacement surgery and anterior-approach hip replacement.
Dr. Tam is Board Certified and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is a member of the Western Orthopaedic Association and the California Orthopaedic Association. As a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Western University of Health Sciences, he precepts medical students who rotate through the Pacific Orthopaedic clinic.
