Dr. O’Brien is a dual board-certified psychiatrist in adult psychiatry and consultation liaison psychiatry, which is the treatment of psychiatric symptoms in people with medical comorbidities. Dr. O'Brien graduated cum laude with distinction in psychology from Yale University. She went on to receive her MD from Mount Sinai Medical School and completed residency and fellowship training at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City where she served as chief resident.
She focuses her treatment on general psychiatry including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, psychotic disorders, and identity issues. Her additional training includes specialty training in reproductive psychiatry and treating women in all stages of the reproductive cycle.
Dr. O'Brien's treatment philosophy emphasizes treatment of the whole individual. She pieces together symptoms that are due to physical illness, medication side effects, and the patient's psychiatric diagnosis. She believes psychopharmacological interventions are an important part of a treatment plan, alleviating symptoms and allowing a patient to better function in their day to day life. Medication also can stabilize symptoms so that a patient can effectively participate in other modalities of care such as therapy. Dr. O'Brien only sees patients through telemedicine, allowing her flexibility to have unique office hours.
Her outside interests include skiing, playing tennis, running, and reading. She has an interest in the stock market and had worked for Lehman Brothers prior to pursuing her medical education. She enjoys spending time with her husband and children.
