Dr. Shelley Sellinger is a board-certified psychiatrist with over 25 years of experience. She earned her medical degree from Universidad Central del Este (UCE) Facultad de Medicina and completed her residency at Albany Medical College. She currently practices at Talkiatry. Her career has been devoted to serving both her local community as well as high-risk and underserved patients. As a pioneer and advocate for the use of telepsychiatry years prior to the pandemic, she has presented at the American Telehealth conference as well as at grand rounds.
Dr. Sellinger's practice focuses on medication management as well as supportive and insight-oriented psychotherapy. She believes that a combination of therapy and medication provides patients with the best outcomes. Her goal is to help patients live their best and most fulfilling lives. In addition to general psychiatry, she has a keen interest in mood disorders, helping creatives achieve their goals, and supporting the LGBTQ community.

What is your typical process for working with clients?
We start with a comprehensive first visit, where you and your provider will discuss your goals, medical history, and what brings you to treatment. From there, you’ll work with your provider to create a care plan that feels right for you, which may include medication, therapy, or both. If your provider recommends medication, they’ll walk you through your options—our goal is always to help you make informed choices about your care. You’ll meet with your provider regularly for follow-up visits to check in, adjust your care as needed, and make sure you feel supported in your journey.

Because we accept insurance, we can reduce out-of-pocket expenses and still offer high-quality care. You may not have any cost related to your visit with us, depending upon your insurance plan. Most patients pay a small copay per visit, subject to any deductible or coinsurance that your health plan has. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services determines appropriate billing guidelines. These guidelines depend on the length of the visit and the complexity and severity of your diagnosis. For this reason, we need to wait until after the visit for the final determination. We then submit the claim to your insurance company. The charges are calculated based upon pre-negotiated prices with your insurance company. Your insurance company will then determine what amount, if any, is your responsibility per your insurance plan.

Shelley spent the entire session interragating me with a laundry list of questions- all to tell me in the last 3 minutes that ZocDoc is not for me and it's best to see someone in person. She said her team would follow up and they never did. She was very kind, but seemed cold. When she repeated back the things I said, the information was wrong. My read is that she is very scattered. I had high hopes for to her great ratings. I am very upset I paid for a session was a waste of both our time. I don't usually leave reviews, but am hoping I can save someone else the inconvenience I experienced. Happy healing everyone!
