Dr. Cristian Penciu, MD, is board-certified in General Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry. He earned his medical degree from Universitatea de Medicina si Farmacie Iuliu Hatieganu Facultatea de Medicina. He completed his residency in Psychiatry at Bergen Regional Medical Center in New Jersey and a fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry at Montefiore Medical Center. Dr. Penciu has been practicing psychiatry in the Los Angeles area, managing patients with general psychiatric disorders and addiction. He specializes in outpatient detox and helping patients achieve and maintain sobriety. Dr. Penciu works closely with inpatient psychiatric units to facilitate the transition of patients to an intensive outpatient program (IOP), developing a strong infrastructure for caring for patients with addiction.

Securing an appointment and filling out Intake forms for Dr. Penciu was easy. My appointment began on time and it lasted 45 minutes.
Why I chose a Psychiatrist over a Psychologist is because their MD specialty allows them to teach their patients about the science of the brain and its effects and connections to the body and to the emotions.
Dr. Penciu clearly understood my dilemma and immediately began giving me tools to reach resolve. He has excellent bedside manner and I highly recommend him.

I have never felt more dismissed and disrespected by a professional. I was hoping to talk through existing prescriptions and dosages with a medical professional. Instead I felt written off and unheard. Atrocious bedside manner. Shouldn't feel nervous/guilty/shamed about talking about medications with a professional!
Not to mention, both times I saw Dr. Penciu, he asked if a "student" could observe only to reveal they had been sitting in the room already. Just generally terrible. One of the worst experiences I've ever had with a doctor.

Dr. Penciu is great. I honestly feel heard and supported by him. He's extremely knowledgeable and considers as many angles as possible. He is professional and kind. I really get the feeling that he is trying to help. I have seen many psychiatrists over the years and he is undoubtedly one of the best I have ever had. I'm so happy I found him. Finding the right medication can be challenging, but I am confident that Dr. Penciu is doing his best to help me find the right combination in a safe manner.
