Getting to know Dr. Christopher Chin

Dr. Chin is a board-certified adult psychiatrist specializing in diagnosing and treating individuals with mood and anxiety conditions, with a particular focus on managing clinical depression. He has a strong interest in mood disorders, including bipolar spectrum disorders, unipolar depression, treatment-resistant depression, as well as OCD and anxiety conditions. Dr. Chin earned his Bachelor's degree from the University of California, Davis. He received his Doctor of Medicine from St. George's University and completed his residency in psychiatry at the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center. Although his undergraduate studies sparked his interest in the neuroscience of human experience, he initially pursued medicine with the goal of becoming a primary care physician, inspired by the doctor-patient relationship. Over time, through his medical training and personal experiences, he developed a deep appreciation for the profound-and sometimes isolating-psychological and social impacts of psychiatric conditions. Caring for individuals facing these challenges as a psychiatrist became a natural fit for him, and he has remained committed to this path. Dr. Chin takes a collaborative and holistic approach with his patients. He dedicates time to understanding their personalities, situations, and preferences, which enhances his ability to tailor treatment and provide personalized care. He views clinical medicine as the art of understanding and responding to individual value judgments, and psychiatric practice is no different. He welcomes his patients' questions, seeing them as an opportunity to foster dialogue and determine the best treatment for each individual. For Dr. Chin, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) is an effective, non-invasive therapeutic technology that offers many patients who are unresponsive to medications and psychotherapy a chance for significant improvement.
