Dr. Van, a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist, received her Bachelor of Arts in Biology and a minor in Economics with Cum Laude Honors from the University of California, Santa Cruz and her Doctorate of Osteopathy from Ohio University, College of Osteopathic Medicine, where she served as President of the Sigma Sigma Phi National Honors Society. Dr. Van completed her internship in Internal Medicine at Meridia South Pointe Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio and her residency in Ophthalmology at Doctors Hospital, an affiliate of Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. She served as Chief Resident from 2000-2001. Dr. Van is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Osteopathic Association, the American Osteopathic College of Ophthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology, and the Texas Medical Association. Dr. Van specializes in cataract and many specialized intraocular lens implants, including multifocal, toric, and monofocal. She also performs the latest and most advanced refractive laser surgery, including Relex® SMILE (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction,) LASIK, and PRK. Additional procedures Dr. Van does are blepharoplasty, entropion, pterygium with graft, lid lumps and bumps, and other laser surgeries. She takes care of many different eye exams, including general routine eye care, dry eyes, diabetic, macular degeneration and glaucoma. She has a strong interest in the newest ophthalmic medical and surgical developments by being involved in clinical research. She has participated in various clinical studies that led to new medications for glaucoma, dry eye, and cataract surgery. I arrived at 12:40 for a 12:45 appointment. My Dr was leaving for lunch as I arrived and waved to the receptionists on her way out. After waiting for her to return from lunch, she told me to "keep doing what you're doing" and sent me on my way. I have chronic eye styes and they are getting worse; she tells me to keep doing the same thing?!? Either this place/Dr doesn't care or doesn't listen. Avoid at all costs.

I have Thygeson's superficial punctate keratitis, which usually does not present a lot of trouble but flares up from time to time. The ophthalmologist I had in Austin was an expert in the rather rare condition, and honestly, just a pleasant human being as well—always compassionate and educational in a way that made me feel calmer and more in control of the situation. Dr. Van, conversely, examined me as though I weren’t in the room, talking almost exclusively to the medical assistant; she then rattled off a bunch of scary possibilities about permanent and progressive damage that I’ve never heard about Thygeson's, then only afterward admitted she’s never seen the disease IRL (???). When I burst into tears, and I made it clear that this was because of her irresponsibly throwing around scary half-thoughts with no real-life experience of the disease, she was no more compassionate and shruggingly said “I’m sorry that’s what *you* got from what I said.” TLDR: Dr. Van is contemptuous.
