More about Dr. Daphna Shiffeldrim, MD

My interests in working in psychiatry started very early. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at a young age. Living with a chronic condition has taught me about the intimate connection between mind and body and the power of one to influence the other. I am a board certified Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatrist. In every stage of my training, I sought to deepen my understanding of this connection, and develop skills to help patients maintain a balance between the two. I enjoy working with children of all ages and young adults. While I can treat any psychiatric condition, I specialize in treating people living with chronic medical conditions; particularly type 1 diabetes, but also many others. My individualized multifaceted approach to treatment includes a combination of psychopharmacology, various psychotherapy techniques, extensive work with and support for parents, coordination with schools and other treating physicians, as well as lifestyle modifications (relaxation techniques, improving sleep, nutrition, and exercise). I strongly believe that optimizing one's physical health requires optimum mental health and vice versa. My practice offers flexible hours including evening and Sunday appointments on an as needed basis. Please note that in order to deliver the highest quality of care, you should expect a phone call from me prior to our initial consultation so that I can best understand the circumstances and prepare for your visit. Depending on the age of the patient, the initial consultation may take place over the course of one or two visits. *Please note that due to State laws, I am unable to see Medicare or Medicaid patients in my practice, even through private contracts. I also do not accept any commercial insurance plans.
