Dr. Darwin has truly changed our lives. He's very empathetic, and brings a unique combination of worldiness, life experience and humor to the sessions. He's understanding but also has a way of holding his patients to be accountable, asking you to look at your actions and feelings through a different lens. Each session I learn something and feel it was time incredibly well spent. I truly can't recommend him enough.

I've been working with Dr. Darwin Buschman for over a year and without trying to sound dramatic - it's been life changing. I came to Dr. Darwin when my mental health wasn't great and was interfering with my family, work and relationships. From the start, I didn't feel judged or intimidated and together we mapped out an action plan after some time spent diagnosing the issues. He was able to provide different coping skills and work through a lot of what I was going through, as well as accurately explain the different side effects and benefits of different options.
He has a very casual manner and this really puts me at ease and allows me to open up and share more than someone with a more clinical approach.
I feel in very good hands and have since been able to decrease the frequency of our sessions based on the success shown, but know that he's only an email/phone call away, should something come up.

A bit about my approach to treatment. I have a general psychiatric practice, telepsych only, with Medication management and short term psychotherapy. My therapeutic approaches include supportive therapy and IPT (interpersonal therapy which is a time limited evidence based therapy.) I do not practice long term "analytic" therapy. I address specific complaints of depression, anxiety, or other symptoms, very directly with specific goals of simply feeling and functioning better as quickly as possible.
I have recently chosen to accept insurance Aetna, Cigna, Optum*, Empire BlueCross BlueShield and others, NY State but I must be contacted to verify insurance before making appointment. Please note that the section "Frequently asked questions" includes statements written by Zocdoc, not by me, and are not entirely accurate, especially those regarding simply going to my calendar and scheduling an appointment-a phone call and insurance verification by me (usually within 1-2 business days) must precede making a firm appointment.
