Dr Shah was phenomenal! She fit me in on a busy day, was very courteous and diagnosed and treated me appropriately. She explained everything in terms I could understanding even taking the time pull out an eye model to show me in great detail. I really appreciated her thoroughness and patience. Her bedside manner is excellent! I feel so much better knowing my precious eyes are in such good hands.

Dr. Shah is a board-certified ophthalmologist with subspecialty training in corneal diseases and surgery. Her expertise includes the latest corneal procedures including full and partial thickness corneal transplantation, intrastromal corneal ring segments, pterygium excision, amniotic membrane grafting and collagen cross-linking. She specializes in the management of corneal diseases with an emphasis on dry eye management. Dr. Shah also performs laser-assisted cataract surgery as well as refractive surgery (PRK and LASIK).
Dr. Shah is a native of Northern Virginia and graduated with honors from the University of Virginia as an Echols Scholar. She earned her medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania, where she was awarded a Doris Duke Clinical Research Fellowship as well as numerous honors including the Oliver Holmes Prize for Excellence in Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Foundation Excellence Award. Dr. Shah concurrently attended Johns Hopkins University on a Reed-Frost Scholarship and obtained a Master of Public Health. She completed her ophthalmology residency at the Scheie Eye Institute of the University of Pennsylvania, where she initiated an international elective in small incision cataract surgery. Dr. Shah subsequently completed a prestigious cornea fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary / Harvard Medical School where she was selected as a Heed Fellow, given nationally to recognize outstanding fellows in the country. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Shah has a passion for innovation and research. She has published numerous first-author peer-reviewed publications and been selected to present her work at national and international meetings. She is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Cornea Society, and Washington D.C. Metropolitan Ophthalmological Society.

Dr was very nice and helpful as always but her assistant (who did majority of tests) was rather awful. I hope she just had a bad day and she’s not always like that. She behaved basically like she really, really hated her job and didn’t want to be there. She was like an automaton, a little impatient, annoyed, and wanted to be done with me as soon as possible.

I was referred over for an urgent problem. Dr Shah squeezed me into her very busy day and was able to diagnose the problem quickly after some testing and examining me. She explained everything very clearly, listened attentively, sent over the prescription electronically (it was ready for pick up at the pharmacy before I left the office) and gave me a handout that explained my problem and the treatment regimen in great detail. Great physician and practice with superb technology!

Dr. Shah and her team at Eye Doctors of Washington are nothing short of amazing. The practice employs the best of the best, as is evidenced by the highly trained staff. Dr. Shah her team are extremely patient, attentive and genuinely caring. The appointment itself was great; never did I feel rushed and Dr. Shah concluded the session only when all my questions were answered.

Absolutely Outstanding!!! She’s like the Tom Brady of ophthalmologists. Her team is very professional and caring. She called me before and after my surgery to make sure my questions were answered. She was very reassuring and calm and I was very much at ease. Awesome surgeon, great person. I unequivocally recommend her to anyone, including my family and friends. This was by far the best experience I’ve had with a physician.

I have been seeing Dr. Shah for three years for a chronic eye condition, first at her New York City practice where she performed my surgery and now I've followed her to Eye Doctors of Washington for regular follow up visits. I really wanted to like this place - the staff are fantastic and kind, but it just seems like there are too many patients here and a doctor with too little time to see them all. Long wait times though doctor was brisk and professional. But this is the weirdest thing - this is the first time I have ever had a doc walk out of the appointment without indicating that she was not coming back. So I came in very happy, but left feeling very odd.

I was referred over by my optometrist for an urgent visit and Dr Shah graciously fit me into her schedule even at the end of the day. I was very impressed with the top-notch modern faciltiy, seamless workflow and technology that was used to diagnose my condition. Dr Shah clearly spent time listening to my concerns, examined me thoroughly, explained all the test results and discussed with me the diagnosis and management. She answered all our questions and gave us reassurance. I was very impressed by her attention to detail and very kind and compassionate nature. I thought everyone on staff - with the exception of the nurse/ophthalmologist assistant was very friendly. For some reason my interactions with the person who actually did my initial testing were not good. I didn't catch her name but she was just not very friendly and made me carry my bags (because I was going out of town after the appointment) throughout the office because she said that the office was not responsible for any lost or stolen items, which I'm sure is true but that made it seem like that had a problem with that in the past. It just didn't seem logical and was a bit off putting. But everyone else was great!

Dr Shah is amazing! She was patient, compassionate and correctly diagnosed my condition after carefully listening and examining me. I have been to many doctors previously who had failed to identify my problem. She was very efficient and caring and got me on the correct course of treatment. She also ordered some blood work and imaging and then called me to update me on the results outside of office hours as soon as they were available. She truly cares and made sure she personally explained the test results to me and arranged for the appropriate follow up! Her office and staff are also excellent, clean and very professional.

Wow Dr. Deepika Shah is the consummate professional. I went to see her for dry eyes and she listened very carefully to my medical concerns, examined my eyes, and then spent a half hour reviewing all of the clinical data to recommend treatment for me. She is very kind and her credentials are impressive. I'll be going back to see her. Her McLean office is beautiful and the staff are extremely professional and organized. They called and emailed me before my appointment to answer any logistical questions I had. Fabulous physician! A++++

I previously had cataract surgery out of state and was having some symptoms. After moving to Northern Virginia this summer, I read about Dr. Shah in Washingtonian magazine Top Doctors and went to see her for my eye. She is simply outstanding. Listened attentively, compassionate, and answered all the questions that my husband and I had. It's the first time I didn't feel rushed in a doctor's office. She explained the different types of cataract surgeries to me and recommended a few different treatment options. She wanted me to go home, think about it, and come back with any other questions. I'll be going back in about a month to see her. Her office is beautiful and the entire team is SO friendly. Truly a Top Doctor. She's amazing!!!
