Dr. Mangan is fellowship trained in orthopedic sports medicine and board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. He has additional qualification with a subspecialty certification in orthopedic sports medicine.
Dr. Mangan joined Valley Orthopedics in 2004. Born and raised in Connecticut, Dr. Mangan received his undergraduate degree in Exercise Science and Biomechanics at the University of Massachusetts, and then attended medical school at the University of Connecticut. Upon completion of his surgical training at the Southern Illinois University Orthopedic Residency Program, he participated in a Sports Medicine fellowship in Palo Alto, California where he was on staff at Stanford University Medical Center and assisted in the medical care of the Oakland Raiders, San Jose Sharks, USA Rugby, San Jose Stealth, and San Jose Sabercats. He served as the team physician for the US Men’s National Rugby Team in Australia at the 2003 Rugby World Cup. Dr. Mangan volunteers locally as the team physician for Desert Edge High School.
He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the Arizona Medical Association. In his free time, he can be found snowboarding, playing golf and tennis, hiking and camping.
Dr. Mangan currently serves as a consultant to the Cleveland Indians where he participates in the care of the athletes from Major league to Rookie league level during spring training and throughout the rest of the year.

Very professional. Good comprehensive exam and excellent discussion. Took sufficient time to review the differential diagnoses with me. I am a senior physician, though Dr. Mangan didn't know this at first. I was traveling and needed to be seen. Would recommend him highly.

Well, I walked in 40 minutes before the appointment time with all the "New Patient" forms completely filled out. I checked in and sat down and about 15 minutes later I was told I had to drive over to get my shoulder x-ray'd - they neglected to ask me to do this prior to my appointment. I drove the mile or so and found the X-Ray Company waiting room packed. 45 minutes later I'm back in my car heading back to Dr. Mangan's Office where I waited another 30 minutes. This was completely avoidable had the office staff did their job and had me get X-Ray's BEFORE my appointment. Notwithstanding all that, Dr. Mangan had excellent bedside manner and I highly recommend him

Dr. seemed nice, I think asking someone to rank a drs. Office on a first visit is. A little premature, ask me 3 weeks after the schedualed surgery.
