Dr. Erik Letko received extensive Ophthalmology training at prestigious institutions in both the US and Europe. He graduated from Charles University 1st School of Medicine in Prague, Czech Republic in 1994 where he also completed his first residency in ophthalmology and cornea fellowship. He then spent six years as a fellow in Ocular Immunology, Cornea and External eye diseases at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA. After finishing his fellowship Dr. Letko completed a second residency in Ophthalmology at Casey Eye Institute in Portland, OR.
Dr. Letko’s areas of expertise include cornea, cataract and refractive surgery, ocular inflammation and uveitis. Over the last 15 years he participated in numerous clinical trials aiming to improve treatment of a spectrum of eye diseases. Most recently he was involved in clinical trials investigating the effect of crosslinking on keratoconus and infectious keratitis. He also served as a principal investigator of the first large US clinical trial approved by FDA investigating the effect of corneal crosslinking on infectious keratitis. Dr. Letko is the author or coauthor of over 30 original articles published in peer reviewed scientific journals, and 10 books or book chapters. He serves as a faculty member teaching specialty courses at the American Academy of Ophthalmology and lectures as an invited speaker both domestically and abroad.
