Although I trained in psychoanalysis, I have moved away from it in theory and in technique. I treat each patient as an individual and not according to outdated formulas concerning "complexes". I have been successful in treating patients with eating disorders (including obesity) and sexual disorders as well as with problems in living their lives to the fullest. These problems include difficulties at work, difficulties socially, family issues, and difficulties in money management and in obtaining enjoyment from daily activities. I have written many articles and made many verbal presentations at national and international meetings and I am the author of a book called The Almighty Dollar detailing people's relationships with money throughout the life cycle. I am a Lecturer in Psychiatry at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a Fellow of the American Academy of Psychoanalysis and Dynamic Psychiatry of which organization I am a Trustee. What makes me an outstanding psychiatrist are my personal characteristics of insight, compassion and warmth which reassure patients and make them feel comfortable in talking to me freely, the greatest necessity for a successful outcome.
I was born and raised in New York City. I received my medical degree from NYU School of Medicine and went on to do a general internship which enhanced my knowledge of general medicine. My psychiatric training was at Bellevue Hospital supplemented by the Course in Psychoanalysis at New York Medical College.
In my spare time, I work as a guide at the American Museum of Natural History and the Museum of Tolerance. My non-professional interests are the arts, particularly opera, literature, paintings, as well as history.
