Dr. Nivar completed her undergraduate degree in physics at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland OH. She then went on to complete her Optometry degree at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH where she was a member of the optometric honor society Beta Sigma Kappa. In conjunction with her Optometry degree, she also completed a Masters degree in Vision Science for which she performed a study evaluating the effects of vision problems on the eye movements associated with reading.
She is passionate about helping her patients better understand their visual system as well as how vision impacts learning. She enjoys helping patients gain confidence in exploring their visual world through improving visual skills.

Dr. Nivar has a lot of experience with children and even though my daughter is 16 she really spoke to her in a way she could understand. My discharged felt heard, validated and respected. She understood how the pandemic and zoom school impacted her vision and gave helpful tips on how to have eye health. So many thumbs up!

Very welcoming staff. I got there about 20-30 mins early and was seen within 15 mins of my arrival. The doctor was very nice, and the checkup went smoothly. She communicated very clearly and overall I had a great experience. Would recommend.

I immediately recommended to a friend! I had a very positive experience. The front staff were friendly and polite. During my exam I felt like I was really being listened to and my needs and concerns were understood. Everyone was very professional. They even were able to fix my broken glasses for me free of charge! Overall it was a very good experience and I will definitely be returning the next time I need an exam.

Great visit, everything positive and all staff helpful. The only thing I would comment on is the office itself is a little run down for a Harvard area optometrist. So don’t be put off by that. Would visit again.

Although this office is listed as accepting United insurance, they don't actually accept it. SURPRISE! Exactly the kind of surprise I tried to avoid by looking for doctors who take a specific kind of insurance.

Would highly recommend Dr. Nivar; she was very professional and informative. The office is modern and the staff is friendly.
Was also very happy that they offered optomap imaging!

Dr. Nivar was great! The office is thorough and efficient, and I was in and out in no time. They have a great selection of frames available if you're in the market, and they have the option to use a special machine that does away with the need for dilation (additional copay FYI). Super convenient. Positive experience!

Overall great experience but was disappointed to realize last minute that I had booked an appointment on the other side of the city instead of at the Jamaica Plain office as I had intended. Should be made extremely clear on the website.
