Dr. Gene Choi is a born and raised Chicago native. His love for medicine began back in high school when he started working as a patient care technician in the emergency department at Rush North Shore Medical Center, where he worked for the next 10 years while completing his education. Throughout his years working in the emergency department, he was able to obtain an invaluable wealth of knowledge and experience that has helped him to treat his patients as a whole person. He prides himself on practicing evidence based medicine and compassionate care for his patients.
Dr. Choi completed his undergraduate education at University of Illinois - Chicago, earning a B.S. in Biological Sciences and completed his medical education at Dr. William Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine at Rosalind Franklin University, earning his D.P.M. He then went on to complete a 3 year surgical residency with added credentials in reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery at Rush University Medical Center where he trained under faculty not only from Rush University but also from Northwestern University and University of Chicago. During his 3rd year of training, he served as chief resident, chosen by his peers and faculty. Dr. Choi continues to be part of the teaching faculty for the Rush residents at the NorthShore University hospitals. His interests lie in treating all conditions related to the foot and ankle, from the common bunions and hammertoes to complex reconstructive surgery, along with sports medicine, trauma and wound care/limb salvage.
Throughout the years, he has enjoyed being actively involved in the community by helping with foot screenings and volunteering in the medical tent at the Chicago marathon.
