The doctor was great. The staff is really unprofessional, though. They're not rude to the patient's by any means, but if they talk that much and that loudly about other people without regard for whether I could hear them, I have no confidence that they weren't loudly talking about me and my medical issues after I left.

Dr. Byrnes is a graduate of the University of Colorado where he received a Bachelor of Arts, with distinction, in molecular/cellular biology. He subsequently attended the F. Edward Herbert School of Medicine, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences where he was awarded a Doctor of Medicine degree. His post-doctoral training started with an internship in family practice at the Naval Hospital in Pensacola. He served a residency in ophthalmology at the National Naval Medical Center and a fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery/ocular oncology at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. For ten years he trained ophthalmologists as a Residency Program Director at the National Naval Medical Center.
Dr. Byrnes is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He holds licenses in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. and is an Examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology. He has hospital affiliations with Washington Hospital Center, Inova Fairfax Hospital, and Virginia Hospital Center and is an Associate Professor at the F. Edward Herbert School of Medicine in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Byrnes belongs to six professional or educational organizations.
