Hector Lopez, D.O., an El Paso native, is a Board Certified Family Physician and certified in Manipulative Medicine. He is an Associate Clinical Professor at UNTHSC/TCOM, Fort Worth’s premiere medical school. Nationally, he was appointed to serve as a Commissioner in the US Dept of Health’s Commission to End Health Care Disparities, and Chaired the AOA Minority Health Office in Chicago. In 1993 he was listed as Best of Border Doctors in the El Paso Times. In 2001, the Texas Society of Family Physicians honored him by selecting him as the Texas Family Physician of the year. In 2004-05, was elected as the FIRST Hispanic President to lead the 100 year old Texas Osteopathic Medical Association, very prestigious honor. As many can attest, Dr. Lopez’s clinical skills, honesty, godly character & enviable integrity are further strengthened by his strong spiritual & humble family values. His medical roots run deep as seen by having a brother and two sons who are also physicians. For over 35 years, Dr. Lopez has been a firm believer in using his medical skills to compassionately, professionally, and efficiently lessen disease and daily afflictions.

I would not recommend Dr. Lopez for treatment regarding mental health issues. I'm an 18 year old with a previously diagnosed anxiety disorder and the first thing I heard upon Dr. Lopez walking in was that I was "too young to have anxiety." He proceeded to scrutinize me on the cause of my disorder, asking right out the gate and very flippantly if I had been sexually abused. Clearly uncomfortable (panicking at this point), I tried to explain to him that no, that isn't the case, and that mental illness runs in my family. He rejected this explanation, again asking me about what was causing it. I mentioned I had a rough relationship with my mom and he brushed it aside, telling me that a lot of people have trouble with their parents. After reviewing my symptoms, he diverted the conversation and asked me about when the last time I had had lab work done was. He told me he was going to order comprehensive health testing, his rationale being that he "wanted to know what's going on on the inside of me." The nurse came in and later explained to me that that testing entailed nine vials of blood being drawn. Overall I felt minimized and despondent after my appointment with Dr. Lopez, but most of all I was angered at the fact that this was a doctor specifically listed for the treatment of mental health disorders. I am going to be placing a complaint to the Texas Medical Board about my visit. I urge anyone suffering from a mental illness to steer clear of this doctor.
