More about Dr. Howard Weiss, MD, MPH
Dr. Weiss is a highly skilled glaucoma and cataract surgeon. His colleagues consult him regularly for his expertise in surgery and laser treatment; more than 50% of his patients are referred to him by other physicians. Among his patients are other doctors, including other ophthalmologists who perform cataract and glaucoma surgery. He has repeatedly been an invited instructor at cataract surgery courses offered by the American Academy of Ophthalmology for continuing education of practicing ophthalmologists. His expertise with astigmatic and multifocal lens implants (including Restor, Crystalens, and Rezoom) has provided improved vision and freedom from eyeglasses for many of his cataract patients.
Dr. Weiss has pioneered two surgical procedures to treat elevated eye pressure: one for implanting a drainage tube to treat advanced glaucoma, and another to reduce eye pressure without entering the eye, so that his patients may have a safer, quicker and more comfortable recovery. His practice encompasses all of general ophthalmology and is complemented by teaching at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Georgetown University, and the Washington Hospital Center and by his involvement with two research studies sponsored by the National Eye Institute of the National Institutes of Health.
