Dr. Jay Kimmel is an orthopedic surgeon with Advanced Orthopedics New England. Dr. Kimmel specializes in Sports Medicine with an emphasis on shoulder and knee injuries. Dr. Kimmel is the co-director of the Connecticut Sports Medicine Institute (CSMI) at St Francis hospital. CSMI is a multidisciplinary institute dedicated to bringing the principles of sports medicine to the local community. Dr. Kimmel is a leader in bringing value-based health care to the sports medicine community. Dr. Kimmel enjoys teaching and is an assistant clinical professor in both the department of family medicine and department of orthopedics at the University of Connecticut. Dr. Kimmel attended Cornell University in New York and then the University of Rochester where he earned his doctorate in medicine. He completed his orthopedic residency at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center where he trained with some of the pioneers in shoulder surgery. He then went on to do a fellowship in Sports Medicine at Temple University Center for Sports Medicine in Philadelphia where he participated in the care of the Temple athletes. Dr. Kimmel is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery and is board-certified in Orthopedic Surgery. He recently re-certified in 2013. He is a member of the exclusive American Academy of Sports Medicine, whose members have demonstrated by their training and practice a thorough knowledge and commitment to sports medicine. Dr. Kimmel has earned the Subspecialty Certificate in Orthopedic Sports Medicine given by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery. **Dr. Kimmel at this time cannot provide a new prescription for medication or refills***
