I guess I'm an old fashioned psychiatrist - I like to talk to my patients. Though thoroughly trained in Biological Psychiatry and Psychopharmacology, I don't do 10 minute "med checks". I check on my patients, not only their medications. And that takes a little time. The shortest appointments that I do are about 25 minutes for people that don't need psychotherapy Per Se; they either have separate therapists or stable biological illnesses with not much current stress in their life. The more common appointments I have are for 45 minutes allowing time for both medication management (if needed) as well as psychotherapy. While I use some of the knowledge and techniques from both cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic treatments, the therapy I provide is primarily supportive; it helps hold up those parts of you that are sagging at the moment, to get you back to your true self.
My background: I attended The University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine, graduating in June, 1984. I did my residency training at the University Medical Center at Stony Brook (NY). I am certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in Psychiatry. I have been in practice for 23 years.
I work as a solo practitioner without any receptionists or nurses, etc. So you can be assured that it will be me returning your calls and your confidentiality is assured.
