He earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), after completing undergraduate studies at Antioch College. He completed both his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Highland Hospital. In addition to being Ria Health’s Founder and Chief Medical Officer, he currently serves as Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCSF and maintains a private practice. Dr. Mendelson is deeply committed to evidence-based addiction treatment and has dedicated much of his career to researching new options and expanding access. More recently, he served as Senior Research Scientist at Friends Research Institute. His work has been widely published, earning him international recognition as an expert in addiction medicine. Alongside research, Dr. Mendelson has maintained a strong commitment to direct patient care. He has worked with patients in his private practice for decades and recently served as Medical Director of BAART (Bay Area Addiction Research and Treatment), overseeing five opioid treatment clinics in San Francisco treating approximately 3,500 patients daily. Dr. Mendelson has profound empathy for individuals struggling with substance abuse. He founded Ria Health (formerly DxRx) in 2015, driven by the conviction that patients deserve safe, effective, and affordable treatment for alcohol use disorder. He believes success should be measured by scientific data and that tools such as medication and recovery coaching should be accessible to all who need them. My goal is to provide comprehensive, compassionate care tailored to each individual's unique needs.
