I had checked Dr. Velyvis's background and it is superb. My problem turned out to be only a sprain -- nothing torn in the knee, etc. -- which is wonderful Yes, I would choose this doctor without any hesitation if I had to see an orthopedist again.
What I didn't like: My appointment was at 9:30. I was asked to be in the office 20 minutes early to fill out paper work -- and I was. I was forced to give all kinds of info on this site -- including my insurance info and a photo of my insurance card (highly objectionable, given the security breaches that have occurred with even the most "secure" banks and financial and insurance companies...) I did all of this. I arrived 20 inutes early as asjed - -and was then asked to fill out paperwork replicating ALL of the information I had provided online -- including allowing them to photocopy my insurance card (which they had a photo of -- the app said it had "accepted" evveryting, etc).
I then waited to be xrayed for about an hour... I finally saw the doctor at 11:15 -- TWO HOURS after I got into the office Both Dr. Velyvis and his xray tech were fine. His tech said that they charge less for xrays than a lot of docs and hospitals (we'll see when I get the bill - hope that's true, as I haven't met my annual deductible for my insurance!). Other than the wait (and lack of anything but orthopedic magazines to read in the large and busy office), the visit was fine and I would recommend them and return again.

John H. Velyvis, MD, is a board-certified Orthopedic Surgeon, prinicipal owner of PRO Surgical Institute (Precision Robotic Orthopedic) and practicing in San Francisco, CA. Dr. Velyvis has been named one of the Top Doctors in America. His areas of specialty include partial knee, total knee and total hip replacement surgery and arthroscopic knee surgery. He was co-surgeon on the first outpatient robotic-assisted partial knee resurfacing performed in a surgery center in the United States. Dr. Velyvis completed his fellowship training at the Massachusetts General Hospital focusing on the latest techniques in total hip and total knee replacement, including minimally invasive surgery for hip and knee, and computer-assisted surgery.
Dr. Velyvis is an expert in the innovative field of robotic-assisted surgery. He has lectured and published as well as trained new surgeons on this topic within the field of orthopaedics. He helped pioneer a minimally invasive hip replacement surgical technique which is now widely used, and has experience with both the Blue Belt Technologies Navio and the MAKOplasty robotic knee systems, having performed over 700 cases since 2008.

This visit happened several months ago at this point. The visit was pretty quick - Dr Velyvis examined my knee by asking me a few questions and making me do a few exercises to see where the pain could be coming from. He didn't solve my knee issues, but did give me a better insight to what the causes of pain were.
