Dr. Jonathan Smith founded Andersonville Psychology with the goal of providing quality evidence-based, trauma-informed, and LGBGTQ-affirmative psychotherapy and psychological assessment.
Jonathan completed his doctorate in clinical psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2015. During his coursework he completed three years of training placements. He worked with college students at both Truman College's Wellness Center and DePaul University's Counseling Services. Additionally, he provided group and individual psychotherapy services primarily to LGBTQ individuals at Lakeshore Hospital's Valeo Intensive Outpatient Program.
After completing his coursework, Jonathan spent a year working in a large practice outside Milwaukee, Wisconsin providing psychotherapy and psychological assessment to a wide variety of people with many presenting issues. He became comfortable working with survivors of trauma during this period.
Following graduation, Dr. Smith worked for two years at Live Oak, a group practice in Chicago. During these two years he facilitated groups and workshops and provided individual and couples therapy. He also supervised other clinicians and greatly expanded his comfort and competence working with survivors of many forms of trauma.
Jonathan works to integrate multiple approaches to his work with clients, and strives to utilize empirically-supported treatments when possible and appropriate. He draws heavily from cognitive-behavioral theory and also attempts to make use of the relationship between himself and his clients.
