Dr. Shartzkes was born in Brooklyn, NY and accepted as a high school valedictorian to the combined Brooklyn College-SUNY Downstate B.A.-M.D. program, from which he graduated Magna Cum Lude with Distiction in Reesearch in 2003. He completed his Residency in Internal Medicine at Yale in 2006 and Mount Sinai's Urban community Fellowship program in Cardiovascular Diseases in 2009. Dr. Shatzkes' hobbies include both playing and watching sports. He is a fan of the New York Yankees, Giants, Rangers and Knicks.
