apparently i need a referral every single
time i have an appt now? im new to la care medi cal and none of this was disclosed with me by their office. the office informed me i needed a referral for the first time seeing dr (understandable), but now it’s every time. i’m letting everyone reading this comment know so they won’t waste their time like their office wasted mine.
as for bedside manner- the first appt i fought for the dr seemed dismissive of my concerns and questions. having HMO insurance i get treated like i ruined my doctors life. i should’ve shopped for a different gyno after this first visit. lesson learned!

This doctor should know that her patients can hear her mocking them as she walks through the hallways— the doors are not soundproof. I found her bedside manner to be brash and her demeanor unprofessional. She told me to just forget about my heightened risk of breast cancer because “everyone gets it eventually.” Her staff was kind, but I found her to be a condescending person. Would not recommend this doctor.

Dr.Gumbs was excellent. She was very present, pleasant and patient when listening to my concerns. Dr. Gumbs clearly educated me on my concerns and I would feel very comfortable recommending her to friends.

This review isn’t for the doctor herself as I didn’t get to see the doctor. I finally was able to get insurance after not having medical insurance for years, and waited 2 months for this appointment. I haven’t received my insurance cards in the mail yet, but had gone into the doctors a few weeks prior where they just looked up my insurance with my number. The woman at the front desk was on the phone when I arrived so I sat and waited quietly to check in, after she got of the phone she rudely said “ID and Insurance” I wouldn’t have even known she was talking to me if I wasn’t the only one in the waiting room. Anyways, I explained to her that I didn’t have my insurance card but in the past you’re able to look it up. She was very unkind and told me no and basically turned me away. Which was devastating for me as I’ve waited years to get insurance and finally be able to get an appointment to try to better my health. I left crying, had to pay a parking fee and felt completely defeated.

I am extremely frustrated with my experience. I booked an appointment through Zocdoc, and even though I provided all my insurance details, including the insurance photo, I was not informed about the provider's insurance limitations. The day before my appointment, they called to confirm, and everything seemed fine. I arrived 10 minutes early for my appointment, only to be told that they do not accept my EPO insurance, but only PPO. This is completely unacceptable and unprofessional. If they only accept certain types of insurance, that should be made clear upfront, not when I show up for my appointment. Wasted my time and caused unnecessary stress.

I made this appointment over a month in advance. Arrived to the appointment 15 minutes early. Someone who got there after I did was called in before me and I was finally called in about five minutes after my actual appointment time. They took my weight and blood pressure, got me set up in a gown in a room, and I waited for over 30 minutes. I left 40 minutes after my scheduled appointment after not being seen be the doctor at all. I have a job and make my appointments at a specific time for a reason and if an office can’t see their patients in a timely manner then maybe you should consider taking weekend appointments since no one else’s time matters; especially when appointments HAVE TO BE BOOKED ONE MONTH IN ADVANCE.
