Her care focuses on preventative health. She assesses body mass index (BMI) to measure risk for obesity-related issues. She screens for pre-diabetes, metabolic syndrome, osteoporosis and vitamin D deficiency. She also ensures her patients understand how to help prevent strokes. Her special interests include risk assessment for both coronary artery disease (CAD) and peripheral arterial disease (PAD). In addition, using a risk calculator she assesses patients’ ten-year risk of stroke and coronary heart disease (CHD). Dr. Spurgash also works with surgeons to provide pre-operative risk assessments.
She holds memberships in the American Medical Association, Illinois Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, American College of Osteopathic Internists and other organizations that enhance her knowledge of innovations and best practices.
