I had my first appointment with Dr. McGruder after moving to the area. As of August 2022 masks are still required regardless of vaccination status. The front staff and doctor's assistant wore them, but Dr. McGruder wore hers on her chin for the vast majority of my visit. I didn't mind considering masks are widely not necessary today, but found it odd she didn't follow her office's policies.
While Dr. McGruder seems very educated, her communication leaves room for improvement. I take several medications and have had many procedures, so I provide a list of everything for the doctor's reference because that's easier for both of us. She asked many times when my last X was, to which I answered "it's on the paper." She responded that she likes to talk to her patients, although most of the time she was looking at her computer, not at me. She questioned some of the procedures I've had, but her tone was more disapproving than it was curious, at least to me. I cannot recommend this provider.

She had absolutely no bedside manner with me . Her tone was combative the entire time . She told me I had to get a blood test taken and a urine testing done in order for me to get a prescription for my anxiety medicine, which is fine but she decided not to put both request after she gave me this entire condescending speech about doing this with all her “new patients “ . Maybe if she was more pleasant with me she would have been more present and thorough. Instead I get a call from the doctors office hours later saying come back today no later than tomorrow or you won’t get a prescription for your medicine . I’m Being inconvenienced in many ways. Additionally I did ask two staff members why am I not getting urine testing done with my blood work and both said the same thing , which was the doctor didn’t put that in . It was a horrible experience.

Nice Lady Doc, all business, first visit, time will tell! She said she was open to discussion about any changes she would want to make, which is important to me! This visit was mostly about getting me n my information into the system n a piss test for any drugs before we go any further! Next appointment is 2 months unless something comes up! She didn't want to change anything I am currently taking n said she would just continue with what is working now! I didn't really have the chance to get into my problems to much n left without covering everything, my fault! With all the information given I forgot to mention one thing! Kinda hard to judge a good Doc on the first visit, honestly, only time will tell! I left with a good vibe of her!

Don't start a conversation with a brand new patient with the words, "What's wrong with you?" How about an introduction? Also, while my concerns regarding a family history of cancer coupled with a somewhat ambiguous growth in my body may seem exaggerated to you, remember that this is *my* body, not yours. So if you disagree with how I feel on the matter of my concern, at least try to be a little empathetic about why it worries me, rather than brushing it off with a touch of sarcasm. On the bright side, the doctor was obviously knowledgeable and while her exam was ridiculously cursory, she was thorough in all other regards.
