She was very thorough and scheduled a colonscopy for Monday June 5, 2017 and followed with a phone call on Wednesday
June 7, 2015 with the diagnosis that they found a 12 cm mass and the biopsy came back as malignant. Referred me to colorectal specialist Dr Michael Abel for which I have an appt on June 15 and a CT scan of my pelvis, abdomen & chest and an MRI scheduled for June 15, 2017.

Dr. Gerson is the Director of Clinical Research for the Gastroenterology Fellowship Program and an Associate Clinical Professor of Medicine at University of California, San Francisco. Dr. Gerson completed her fellowship training in Gastroenterology at Stanford University and also obtained a Master’s Degree in Health, Research, and Policy from Stanford. Her clinical expertise includes diagnosis and management of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) gastrointestinal motility disorders, colon cancer screening with colonoscopy, evaluation and treatment of irritable bowel syndrome and abdominal pain, and management of GI bleeding. She has a special interest in small bowel bleeding and usage of capsule endoscopy and double balloon enteroscopy.
Dr. Gerson remains very active in the conduction of clinical research and has authored over 140 publications to date. She strives to provide evidence-based medical treatments for patients with gastrointestinal disorders. On a national level, Dr. Gerson has held many important leadership roles including her current role as chair of the Practice Parameters Committee for the American College of Gastroenterology. She has co-authored important national guidelines in the areas of gastroesophageal reflux, gastroparesis, small bowel bleeding, and Barrett’s esophagus. Dr. Gerson is a Senior Associate for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and has served as a member for numerous committees for the AGA, ASGE, and ACG. She has been designated as a San Francisco Super Doctor since 2012 and a Castle Conolly Top Doctor since 2011.

The doctor was very good at listing all the possible diagnoses, giving me a sample medication to take, and recommendations for a diet that can help with my symptoms. Although she could not pin point what was the diagnosis she was willing to consider all options. The meeting was pretty short.

This was probably one of the most pleasant Doctor encounters I've ever had. As a woman who doesn't feel comfortable seeing male practitioners, finding a female gastro was imperative. She made me feel so comfortable and taken care of and went above and beyond to include other things I needed to get tested on my lab slip. I highly recommend Dr. Gerson, I wish she was my regular physician!

My actual appointment with Dr. Gerson was fine, but my experience with the follow up was pretty horrible. I needed to ask Dr. Gerson for a diagnostic test, and it took me 3 weeks (of calling the office every few days) just to get the thing scheduled. I left multiple messages for Dr. Gerson that were never returned. I spoke with someone at the front desk who was supposed to get the test scheduled for me, and I ended up having to call back multiple times just to get the number to call to schedule it myself. Once I finally had the test done, I never heard from Dr. Gerson about a diagnosis, let alone an explanation of the test results. She prescribed a couple of drugs with no explanation. I even emailed the office twice to try to get in touch with her for some information and never even got a response to the emails.
