Dr. von Fricken began his academic training at Rutgers University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors. He went on to obtain his Doctor of Medicine at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis. He continued his training with an internship in internal medicine at Shands Teaching Hospital at the University of Florida, School of Medicine, a residency in ophthalmology at Georgetown University School of Medicine, and a fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases at University Hospitals and Clinics at the University of Iowa, College of Medicine.
Dr. von Fricken is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and belongs to nine professional societies and organizations. He serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Georgetown University Center for Sight, Washington National Eye Center, and George Washington University of Medicine. He has hospital affiliations at the Washington Hospital Center, Georgetown University Hospital, Inova Fairfax Hospital, and Friendship Surgery Center. Dr. von Fricken served as Chief, Ophthalmology at Inova Fairfax Hospital for eight years. He is licensed in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C.
He has been the principal or co-investigator in four clinical trials, has received honors and recognition for his work, including America’s Best Doctors and Top Physician. He has been recognized by the Washingtonian Magazine as a Top Physician since inception.
