My belief in integrative, holistic nutrition came from personal experience over 15 years ago. I became a true believer in the power of integrative nutrition and wellness. In 1995, I received a fatal diagnosis of Leukemia. My daughter was 5 at the time. I was given, ~ 3 years to live, underwent 4 years of experimental chemotherapy, entered a clinical trial and here I am today. Since graduating with a Masters from Purdue University, I've had the opportunity to counsel and coach individuals and groups in nutrition and wellness, teach university level classes, present nutrition and health topics to corporations and groups, help individuals with medical challenges, and develop a practice in energy therapy. I have held teaching positions, at Purdue University, George Washington University and Montgomery College, Maryland.
While enjoying my own private practice, I work as an integrative, holistic registered dietitian, at GW Center for Integrative Medicine. My counseling style has always been more of a facilitator or guide, and 2 years ago, I decided to get the credentials to go with it and begin my coach training. My holism approach comes from personal experience & extensive post graduate training.
My certifications are in Coaching, Soft Tissue Therapy, Food as Medicine, and Reiki at the Master/Teacher level. It seems as though learning is my constant companion.
My own journey, including surviving leukemia, has given me this perspective toward health, and strengthened my belief in whole person wellness.
