Dr. Mark P. Altman, a board certified orthopedic surgeon, specializes in adult and pediatric surgery of the hand, wrist, shoulder and elbow. Treating injuries and degenerative conditions of the entire upper extremity comprise his practice. This includes joint replacement surgery, arthroscopy, reconstructive procedures, and peripheral nerve surgery. Dr. Altman is one of few surgeons in the state of Connecticut who performs Total Elbow Replacement surgery for severe arthritis and complex elbow trauma. Carpal tunnel syndrome, wrist fractures, trigger fingers, nerve and tendon injuries, complex elbow fractures, arthritis of the hand, wrist, shoulder and elbow, rotator cuff tears are some of the more common conditions Dr. Altman evaluates and treats. Dr. Altman graduated from Swarthmore College and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He completed his Orthopaedic Surgical Residency at Columbia Presbyterian''s New York Orthopaedic Hospital, after three years of general surgical training at Tuft''s New England Medical Center and Roosevelt Hospital in New York City. He then went on to complete a fellowship in Hand and Microvascular surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. Dr. Atlman is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and an elected member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand as well as the New York and New England Hand Societies. In addition to board certification he holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Surgery of the Hand and Upper Extremity administered by the American Boards of Orthopaedic, Plastic, and General Surgery. He has an academic appointment at Yale Medical School as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is an attending on staff at Yale New Haven Hospital, Hospital for Saint Raphael, and Norwalk Hospital.
