It was my first visit. I liked the small office and direct contact with the doctor right away. He handles everything in a professionnal way and by the end of the visit I was glad I went to see him (although I wished he had warned me about the bright light outside after getting the drops to dilute the eyes).
He was delightful and most importantly, a true professional which describes how he treated me as a patient. I was previously told I required surgery for cataracts but his extremely through examination revealed it would be a long time before that may happen.

I am a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist and subspecialty trained ophthalmic plastic surgeon. My staff and I pride ourselves for providing individualized, compassionate care in an intimate, warm setting not commonly seen today. My patients often tell me and my staff that they feel like they are visiting a friend’s home. I am the founding Director of the Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery Clinic at Cook County Hospital in Chicago and was an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of California in San Francisco. As an Assistant Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the Jules Stein Eye Institute at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA), I teach physicians in practice, residents, and fellows. I am the ophthalmic consultant to the world famous Grossman Burn Center in Los Angeles. The Center has been featured on Oprah and the Discovery Channel and provides care to individuals from all over the world. I really believe that eyelid surgery can enhance your appearance and reconstruct anatomical defects required for maintenance of ocular health. Known for dedication to perfection in reconstructive and cosmetic surgery, I enjoy the trust of area physicians who regularly refer patients to me. I strive to combine the skill of surgery with an artistic, delicate touch enabling me to achieve results for my patients that have gone beyond what they had hoped. In my spare time I play trombone in a jazz band that regularly performs throughout Southern California. I have lived with my family in Los Angeles since 1989.

My visit with Dr. Mark Baskin was good and I felt that he was thorough in his exam. It was my first time to see him and so I was expecting to sit in a waiting room prior to my appointed time. I arrived about 20 minutes before my appointment and the door was locked and I thought that perhaps, I was in wrong place despite the fact that Dr. Baskin's name was on the door.

Selecting a doctor for eye surgery these days is, well, pretty scary. Sure, you can go on line and research, but is everything you read on the internet true? My journey to Doctor Mark Baskin’s door was actually pretty simple. I received a recommendation to his office from another Doctor whom I’d been seeing for years. He told me my sagging eyelids were due to age related ptosis (a sagging of the muscles holding the upper eyelid open). My complaint was I just couldn’t see well at all, my vision was blurry and night time driving was difficult. Simple cosmetic surgery would not fix the problem and Dr. Baskin was, in his opinion, the best in the business. I was a bit nervous during my first appointment with Mark Baskin. He thoroughly explained the surgery and recovery time. He told me my droopy eyelids were actually changing the refraction of light into my eyes causing poor, blurry vision. Eureka! I asked him if it made sense to remove the bags under my eyes and tighten up the upper lids during the same procedure. This process was also explained and I left his office with a date for surgery scheduled to minimize down time with a weekend to recover. After the procedure, which was painless I might add, I spent about three days recovering at home. The healing process went well and I was back to normal activities in about a weeks’ time. Dr. Baskin followed up with several appointments to check my progress and to insure my vision was the best it could be. I am extremely satisfied with the surgery. My vision is greatly improved and my friends have told me I look much more rested and not as tired-looking as I did before. My wife remarked she can finally see my blue eyes which had been hidden behind droopy lids for many years. Thank you, Dr. Baskin, for giving me the confidence to look in the mirror again!
