More about Dr. Marvin Kaplan, MD

I have a set of values ranging from returning every phone call the same day to always listening to your opinions and concerns . There are, however, some key values that I would emphasize. The first is being both careful and thorough. This, for example, leads me to having initial evaluations typically lasting two to three meetings of forty-five minutes each. If you are open and honest, I generally get to know enough about you, after these meetings, to present a carefully thought out choice of treatments. It also gives you time to get a sense of whether we would work well together. The second value is matching treatment to you (or you and your partner). I do not believe in offering he same treatment to everyone which can be a problem in psychiatry. I am well versed in many types of psychotherapy such as cognitive behavioral treatment (C.B.T.), interpersonal psychotherapy, Freudian-based psychotherapy and Gestalt therapy, to name a few. If psychotherapy is indicated, I recommend specific techniques most likely to help you (or again, you and your partner) overcome your problems. If medications may be helpful, I keep up to date about them. For example, just recently , a DNA test has become available to predict which people are most likely to respond to certain antidepressants and which people are prone to side effects from these medications. This test is a simple cheek swab that I use in my office. Generally, most people do best with a combination of psychotherapy and medication. However, and above all, I value and am guided by compassion. I am too familiar with the suffering that psychological problems cause people and their loved ones.

The visit was excellent, and felt things were getting better already.
My visit with Dr. Kaplan was excellent, he is an experienced professional who is patient, a good listener and has a practical approach to most matters. In addition to the above he does not push medication's which for me was important. Dr. Kaplan helped me to cope and transition through some major life changing events and I consider myself fortunate to have met him.
100% in every way. Professional yet friendly manner. I felt comfortable. Dr. Kaplan inspired trust, and I know I came to the right place. A well-established, experienced physician who helped me a lot.
I am writing this recommendation on behalf of my psychiatrist Dr. Marvin Kaplan. Dr. Kaplan is truly an exceptional physician. He is experienced, wise and genuinely concerned for my well being. Under his care I have found a sense of calm and wellbeing while dealing with chronic illness. He is one of the brightest Doctors i have ever met. His unique blend of intelligence and kindness not only makes him an exceptional Doctor but a truly exceptional human being.
I am so lucky to Dr. Kaplan as my doctor. He is incredibly perceptive, intelligent, and professional. (And he returns phone calls promptly!) He has helped me enormously, and for that I shall always be grateful. I have recommended him to others, and they all have the same high opinion of him as do. I give him a 5-star rating.
