I arrived to my first meeting with Dr. Matthew Childs pretty skeptical that therapy was something that could help me, personally. How was talking to a stranger going to bring love and vitality back into my marriage, propel me forward in my stagnant career, get rid of that nagging empty feeling that nothing in my life was the way it's supposed to be? I needed solutions, not sympathy! I thought. I found him clever and good humored, certainly easy to talk to. I felt understood and respected. And he wasn't there to tell me what to do or feel sorry for me. Instead, he forged an alliance with me, listened carefully and asked me questions that got me thinking about old problems in a new way. He offered a different perspective on issues I knew too well, had dealt with too long to have any clarity about how to approach them. With Dr Childs' help I began to break through the obstacles to success and fulfillment that were largely in my own mind. He helped me to take command and be more effective in the most important areas of my life- in my marriage, career, and the way that I feel about myself.
Dr. Childs is extremely easy to talk to. I have been able to open up and delve into aspects of my life that have been causing me distress, and most importantly, make needed changes. Practical, kind, and smart. He's worth every penny!

More about Dr. Matthew Childs, PsyD

It’s not easy being a man these days: the world is saying that the essence of men is inevitably toxic and that their instincts lead to difficulties and conflict. While at times these things can certainly be true, it also illuminates the fine line that men are being asked to walk. The same instincts that drive men to be heroic, to defend, and to take calculated risks, are often the same impulses that attract negative attention in the workplace and in relationships. Being the best person you can be under these circumstances can be challenging. Finding ways to move forward or to understand your past is key. Some of those with whom I work are genuinely misunderstood, while others may have crossed a line into negative behaviors. My goal in either case is to help my clients untangle their issues with a pragmatic, solutions-oriented focus.
