Dr. Kirsch is a board certified psychiatrist and a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at UCSF. He has been in private practice in San Francisco for over 36 years. Dr. Kirsch is a psychotherapist and a psychopharmacologist. He provides comprehensive outpatient psychiatric evaluation and treatment services. He specializes in the treatment of adult patients with Depression and Anxiety Disorders, utilizing a combination of psychotherapy and medication. Dr. Kirsch also treats patients who are having career and/or relationship difficulties with psychotherapy. He helps people who are dealing with a life crisis or navigating a difficult life transition.
Teaching: Dr. Kirsch is a faculty member in the Center for the Study of Depression Clinical Case Conference and the Evidence Based Psychiatry Seminar, both at UCSF.
Honors: selected by peers to be a member of "Best Doctors in America" continuously since 2003 and to be a "Top Doctor, Northern California" continuously since 2000. Dr. Kirsch became a U.S. News and World Report Top Doctor in 2011.The Anxiety and Affective Disorders Program in the Department of Psychiatry at UCSF awarded Dr. Kirsch "Special Recognition for Outstanding Teaching" in 2005 and 2007.
Activities and Societies: Dr Kirsch is a member of the APA, CPA, and the Northern California Psychiatric Society. He is also a member of The San Francisco Clinical Neuroscience Society. Dr. Kirsch is a Past President of The Association of Clinical Faculty at UCSF.
